Getting Started
Every short drama app uses the same simple model. What you watch are bite-size vertical episodes. You get the first few for free. Later ones cost coins or a pass. Most of the confusion begins with that split. These five answers are the place to start.
What is a short drama app?
It streams vertical video that is made for phones. A series is split into many short episodes. Billionaires, revenge and identity reveals are popular plot ingredients. Well liked too are werewolf romances. Out in front are ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama. Originally, the format appeared in China as duanju.
How long does each episode run?
Most clock in at reelshorts one to two minutes. Western productions often aim for 60 to 100 seconds. There are usually 20 to 100 episodes in a series. For Married at First Sight, ReelShort lists 90. The hit Double Life series on ReelShort lists 60. A full series can run as long as a movie.
Why do episodes stop right at cliffhangers?
That is usually the spot where free episodes end. The first 5 to 15 are usually free, ReelShort says. Industry reporting mentions a figure of 8 to 10. The paywall tends to land at peak suspense. The business model rests on that timing. It also ranks as a top complaint among viewers.
Who is behind ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?
Crazy Maple Studio in Sunnyvale, California is behind ReelShort. China’s COL Group stands behind that studio. DramaBox is run by Singapore’s StoryMatrix, part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology. Making My Drama is Holywater, set up in Kyiv in 2020. Fox Entertainment bought an equity stake in October 2025. ReelShort launched in 2022, and DramaBox followed in 2023.
Is it possible to watch in a browser or on TV?
Yes, within limits. ReelShort’s website supports Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok and email logins. Your progress stays in sync with the app. Only the app offers free unlocks. There is an Apple TV app for My Drama. We could find no verified ReelShort TV app.
Costs
The most common questions are about money. All figures are US App Store prices as of September 2026. They differ by country, platform and promotion. Treat every number as approximate. Always look at the price screen first. The listings show the following.
Is ReelShort free to use?
Partly, and the free portion is genuine. The catch is what people searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” are after. The opening episodes are free. Downloading is free. Later episodes need coins or a VIP pass. Ads and check-ins get you free coins.
How do coins work?
Coins are the currency that unlocks episodes. According to ReelShort’s blog, an episode costs about 60 coins. Its smallest pack is roughly $4.99 for 500 coins. Bonus coins are added to bigger packs. You earn 100+ coins from a 7-day check-in streak. Two episodes open up with one rewarded ad.
Do coins ever expire?
It depends from app to app. ReelShort notes that free reward coins usually expire. The coins you paid for do not expire. My Drama works differently. Its terms void coins after 12 months of inactivity. Use reward coins first, and stay active.
How much does a weekly pass cost?
The usual price in the US is about $19.99 a week. You will see it listed by ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. A few apps show cheaper tiers. ShortMax lists $9.99, and GoodShort starts near $5.99. These passes all renew automatically. Forget for four weeks and you pay four times as much.
Can I get a monthly or yearly plan?
They exist in some apps. According to ReelShort’s blog, a yearly plan costs roughly $199.99. Its monthly price differs between pages. So we treat that figure as unconfirmed. DramaWave’s listing shows roughly $36.99 a month. ShortMax lists only weekly passes in the US.
Is it possible to watch without paying?
Yes, provided you are patient. Begin by watching each series’ free first episodes. Watch rewarded ads to open up more. Keep a daily check-in streak alive. On top of that, ReelShort runs official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels. All four combined go furthest.
Managing and Cancelling Subscriptions
Weekly passes keep renewing until you stop them. That comes as a surprise to plenty of people. Once you know where to go, cancelling is quick. Where to cancel depends on how you paid. App stores cancel what was bought in them. Companies handle website purchases.
Will deleting the app cancel my subscription?
No, and it is a common mistake. Apple says deleting an app does not end its subscription. Google makes the same point about uninstalling. The same warning shows up in My Drama’s terms. The pass keeps renewing until you cancel. Cancel first, and then delete.
How do I cancel on iPhone?
Begin by opening the Settings app. Tap your name at the top of the screen. Next, select Subscriptions. Find and pick the short drama app. Tap Cancel and confirm it. For safety, act a day before renewal.
How do I cancel on an Android phone?
Open the Google Play Store app. Find your Subscriptions list. Find the short drama app there and select it. Tap Cancel and go through the prompts. Remember, uninstalling does not cancel anything. Recheck the list to confirm the change.
Can I cancel inside the app?
Sometimes, but cancelling through the store is safer. ShortMax’s terms note an in-app option under About Subscription. For store buyers, they point to App Store or Google Play. Only what Apple and Google billed is under their control. Website buyers should reach out to the company. Take a screenshot of every cancellation.
Why was I billed after a free trial?
The way trials are worded can be confusing. ShortMax’s developer acknowledges that its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels puzzled people. According to its terms, passes renew 24 hours before expiry. The renewal is charged at the same price. Cancel one day before any trial runs out. After that, confirm the store shows it cancelled.
Refund Questions
How refunds work depends on who took your money. Play charges are handled by Google. App Store charges are handled by Apple. Website charges go through the companies. No route can guarantee a refund. This table lays out each path.
| Where you paid | How to cancel | Refund path | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone (App Store) | Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel | Apple’s Report a Problem page | Deleting the app won’t cancel |
| Android (Google Play) | Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel | Google in the first 48 hours, then the developer | Uninstalling alone does not cancel |
| Website | Your account or support at the app company | The app company only | Often non-refundable, according to My Drama’s terms |
How do I get a refund from Apple?
Start at Apple’s Report a Problem page. Log in using the Apple ID that paid. Select the charge and give a brief explanation. Within 24 to 48 hours, Apple usually replies. Apple, not the app maker, decides. Remember to cancel the pass too, or it will renew.
How do Google Play refunds work?
Timing is what matters most here. Within 48 hours of purchase, you may get a refund, Google says. Ask for it directly through Google Play. After that window closes, contact the developer. For ReelShort, the path is Profile, then Feedback. If a renewal surprises you, act quickly.
What about buying on the website?
Those are dealt with by the app company. There, Apple and Google cannot help. Web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires, My Drama’s terms say. Its terms offer a 14-day withdrawal right to EU and UK users. Other companies’ rules are their own. Check the terms before paying online.
Can I get a refund for unused coins?
Usually not, and that is in the terms. My Drama’s terms call coin purchases final. ShortMax turns down refunds unless its own fault makes a product unusable. Store requests may help with accidental buys. Until a series hooks you, buy the smallest coin pack. Mistakes then set you back less.
Staying Safe from Look-Alike Apps

Name confusion is everywhere here. Misspelled names lead to little-known unrelated apps. Some sites are copies of well-known brands. A few downloads are unsafe. Your money is protected by using real names. Real and fake are sorted out in these answers.
Is Real Short an actual app?
No, we could not find one. ReelShort is the correct spelling, and Real Short is a misspelling of it. So are “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and probably “shot shorts” too. The correct name is written as one word. New Leaf Publishing is its App Store seller. Before downloading, verify that.
What are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV?
They are small apps, and they are unrelated. ReelBox, found via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, has 50K+ Android installs. It has nothing to do with ReelShort or DramaBox. DailyShort, which people often type as “daily short”, has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV is an Android TV app with 10K+ installs. GoodShort is probably what most searchers mean.
Are ShortTV and ShortMax the same?
Very likely, but unconfirmed. ShortMax’s legal entity is SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong. ShortMax’s website redirects to ShortTV’s site. Each launched in September 2023. No official rename announcement turned up. A search for “short tv” or “short max” also brings up unrelated apps.
Are mod APKs and coin generators safe?
No, and not one is official. Mod APKs are altered copies of apps that come from outside official stores. One look-alike of DramaBox calls its download an unofficial modified version. Coin generators are not official either. There is no way for you to verify what they do. Stick to the official stores and websites.
Why does ReelShort have a low rating on Trustpilot?
On Trustpilot, ReelShort’s page shows 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. A frequent complaint is being charged after cancelling. Weekly auto-renewals are frequently mentioned. Coin prices and refused refunds are mentioned by others. Any review site reflects people who chose to post. Treat it as a checklist rather than a verdict.
